VSFX752- Project2 Match to Live

This is the first time I was trying to render the realistic geometry to match the scene. I think the challenge of the project is about match the colors and light as much as possible you can.


About the sources.


The location was one of my classmate's place. I took those pictures at the living room, placing the mug on a iron red chair.


The difficulty of the scene.

This case is challenged than I expected, I didn't notice that until I started to execute it.

  • The red chair : Red color is bounced everywhere, the original method, projection photo at surface shader was not enough to reach the goal. So I have to create another materiel/ layer to increase the red bounce.

  • Multiple spaculars :The iron chair and the mug are both high-reflection items which means the light will reflect multiple times. It was hard to match all of the speculars only use one light source.

  • Reflection on the base : There was two speculars on the bottom of the mug, I think it came from the light source lit the chair then bounced to the mug. It was also hard to duplicate by using one light. I created another independent layer to reach that.

  • Mug's reflection on the chair : Because the base was not a real geometry, but it include a clear reflection on the chair. I tried to mimic the chair material then render the reflection pass of the scene.

Conclusion

Despite this project was very challenged, but I was glad I got the chance to try it, I learned a lot during the process.
